Choose the MaraX3 if you want to actively adjust extraction with Pagaia. Choose the standard Mara X if you want the lower purchase price and do not need that control. Already happy with your Mara X? A new model alone is not a reason to replace it.
Searching for "Mara X V3"? Check the model number before ordering: MaraX3 is PL62X3; the standard Mara X is PL62X. Older Mara X comparisons do not automatically describe the MaraX3.

When the MaraX3 makes sense
Pagaia is LELIT's electronic flow-control system, not a mechanical valve retrofit. It gives you another control to experiment with during extraction. That is useful if adjusting a shot is part of what you enjoy about espresso; it is less compelling if you want the same simple routine every morning.
Choose it: you specifically want factory flow control and prefer the new design. Skip the upgrade: you would rarely use that feature, or the extra $300 would be more useful for a grinder, water treatment or service.
When the standard Mara X makes sense
The standard model remains an option for a lower-cost heat-exchanger setup. Neither machine is a dual boiler. If your real goal is a different boiler arrangement or more independent brew and steam control, start with our boiler-type buying guide instead of choosing by generation number.
Choose it: you prefer the earlier design and do not need Pagaia. Skip it: factory electronic flow control is already on your must-have list.
Already own a Mara X?
Identify the problem you want an upgrade to solve. A new machine will not automatically correct inconsistent dosing, an unsuitable grind setting or a maintenance issue. If the machine needs attention, use our Lelit troubleshooting guide and repair-or-replace checklist before shopping.
Do not assume an accessory or retrofit fits because a listing says "58 mm" or "Mara X." LELIT's current documentation uses L58E/LELIT58 terminology for both models. Confirm the exact machine revision and accessory part number with us before buying.
Budget for the whole setup
For a hopper-based espresso routine, the Eureka Mignon Specialita and Lelit William are pairing options to compare. They do not have to match the machine's brand. Our grinder guide under $1,000 explains the workflow trade-offs.
Before ordering, confirm counter clearance, access for refilling, electrical requirements and the water guidance in the manual for your exact unit. We are not claiming a measured warm-up or taste advantage here; this comparison uses published specifications, not a new side-by-side bench test.
