The Lelit MaraX3 is the next generation of Kanen's best-selling heat-exchanger machine — and it's a different machine from the standard Mara X we've carried for years, not just a color refresh. The headline change is Pagaia, Lelit's patented electronic flow-control lever: an ergonomic dial mounted on the side of the machine that adjusts pump power in real time as you turn it, rather than a fixed pump curve. Turn it clockwise during a shot to ramp pressure up to 100%, or counterclockwise to ease off — full manual control over extraction without the complexity of a paddle-actuated flow valve.
Under the hood, the MaraX3 pairs Pagaia with Lelit's patented dual-probe HX system and thermosiphon circulation, keeping heat-exchanger water at a stable, predictable temperature the way the original Mara X does — but heats up faster (roughly 15–18 minutes to full thermal stability, versus ~24 minutes on the outgoing model) and swaps the E61 group for Lelit's new proprietary L58E group, built around the LELIT58 barista accessory ecosystem. It's a new design language for Lelit too: smoked oak or zebrano wood accents on the lever, knobs, Pagaia dial, and feet, with a redesigned drip tray and gem-shaped wooden handles on the included portafilter and tamper.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Pagaia actually change about how I pull a shot?
Pagaia controls pump power electronically instead of using a fixed curve — turning the lever clockwise ramps pump output up to 100%, counterclockwise eases it back. That gives you manual control over pre-infusion and pressure through the shot without a mechanical flow valve in the water path. If you've never done pressure profiling, you can also just leave it at full and pull shots exactly like a standard Mara X.
Is the L58E group compatible with my existing 58mm baskets and portafilter accessories?
The MaraX3 ships with its own LELIT58 portafilter, baskets, and tamper, and the L58E group is built around that ecosystem specifically — it's not the same as a standard commercial E61 58mm group. If you're coming from an E61 machine with a collection of aftermarket baskets or bottomless portafilters, check LELIT58 compatibility before assuming your existing accessories will fit.
Should I get the MaraX3 or the standard Mara X?
If you want hands-on control over pressure and pre-infusion, or you like the updated design and faster heat-up, the MaraX3 is the newer, more capable machine. If you want the simplest possible workflow at a lower price point and don't need flow control, the standard Mara X PL62X is still an excellent HX machine and $300 less.
What grinder pairs well with the MaraX3?
Same guidance as our other prosumer HX and dual-boiler machines: don't underspend on the grinder. The Eureka Mignon Specialita ($649) is a solid, reliable starting point; the Eureka Atom 75 ($1,199) is the better match if you want to fully use Pagaia's pressure-profiling range.
