Written by the Kanen Coffee service team. We stock and service the Linea Mini at our Berkeley showroom and work on La Marzocco machines — home and commercial — every week.
La Marzocco makes exactly two entry points into home ownership of the marque: the Linea Mini and the Linea Micra. Same DNA — dual boilers, the saturated group that defines LM shot quality, build that outlives trends — but they're built for different kitchens and different owners.
The 60-second answer
| Pick the Linea Mini if… |
Pick the Linea Micra if… |
- You steam milk for more than one person at a time
- You want the full café-machine presence and thermal stability
- Entertaining is part of why you're buying it
- It's the forever machine and the budget accommodates that
|
- Counter depth and kitchen scale actually constrain you
- You mostly pull shots for one or two people
- You want genuine LM shot quality at the lowest LM buy-in
- You'd rather put the savings toward a great grinder

What's genuinely shared
Both are dual-boiler machines with La Marzocco's saturated group — the architecture responsible for the temperature stability the brand is famous for. Both carry app connectivity, both take proper commercial portafilters, and both are serviced with the same parts ecosystem that's kept café Lineas running for decades. That last point matters more than any spec: these are machines you maintain, not replace, and our bench stocks the gaskets and valves for both.
Where they split
Steam. The Mini's bigger steam boiler is the practical difference you feel daily. Back-to-back cappuccinos for a household or dinner guests are the Mini's home turf; the Micra steams well for its size but recovers more slowly when you queue up milk drinks.
Footprint and presence. The Mini is a statement — wide, heavy, unmistakably a Linea. The Micra was designed to fit under kitchen cabinets and into ordinary counter depth. If you've been talked out of a Mini by a tape measure, the Micra is the answer La Marzocco built for you.
Price. The Micra's entire reason for existing is bringing LM ownership down thousands of dollars from the Mini. The honest framing: the Micra is the shot-quality buy-in; the Mini adds steam capacity, thermal mass, and presence.
The cross-shop everyone should do
At the Micra's price point you should also pull a shot on the Lelit Bianca V3 before deciding — flow control and E61 workflow versus the LM badge and saturated group is a genuine fork in the road, and we keep both on the bar for exactly that taste-off. Our Bianca vs Linea Mini comparison goes deeper on that matchup.
Try both before you decide
Specs don't settle this one — steam feel and workflow do. The Linea Mini is on our floor at 2319 Fourth Street in Berkeley (Micra by arrangement), and we're the rare place you can pull shots on a Mini and a Bianca side by side, then talk to the people who repair both. Book a visit or just come by.
