What makes a Kanen Coffee showroom visit different
You can actually pull shots
Most "espresso machine retailers" let you look at machines on a shelf. We have grinders dialed in next to working machines, with house beans, fresh milk in the fridge, and a rotation of single-origins for light-roast comparisons. You'll pull a real shot on whatever machines you're considering — not just see them powered off.
Side-by-side comparisons
Trying to decide between a Mara X and an Elizabeth V3? We'll set up both, dial in the same grinder for both, and pull comparable shots so you can taste the difference. Same for grinders: Specialita vs Atom 75, William vs Baratza ESP. Most decisions become obvious in 5 minutes of side-by-side.
15+ years of repair experience
Our service team has been opening these machines up for over a decade. When we tell you "the Mara X almost never has boiler failures" or "the Bianca's flow paddle has a learning curve and most people stop using it after 3 months," we're not reading marketing copy — we're sharing what we see come through our shop. That changes the conversation about what to buy.
No pressure, no commission
Our team isn't paid commission. There's no incentive to push you toward a more expensive machine. If you walk in considering a Bianca and we think a Mara X fits your use case better, we'll tell you and save you $1,300.
Service & repairs
We're an authorized service center for Lelit, Breville, ECM, La Marzocco, Rancilio, and most major espresso machine brands. If you bought your machine elsewhere — or 10 years ago — we'll service it. Drop-off at the showroom or ship it to us for nationwide repair service.
Directions & parking
From I-80 (Bay Area): Take exit 11 (University Ave) west. Right on 4th Street. We're between Bancroft Way and Allston Way, on the east side of the street.
From AC Transit: Lines 51B and 6 both stop within 4 blocks. The downtown Berkeley BART station is a 15-minute walk or short Lyft ride.
Parking: Street parking on 4th Street and surrounding blocks (mostly 2-hour metered). For longer visits, the lot at 4th & Hearst has all-day options.
Coming from out of town?
We get visitors from across the Bay Area, Sacramento, and occasionally out-of-state buyers spec'ing a $5K+ machine. If you're driving more than an hour, book a buying consultation in advance — we'll have your specific shortlist ready and dialed in. Nothing worse than driving to Berkeley to pull shots on a machine that wasn't ready for demo.
