The Lelit Elizabeth is one of the most capable dual-boiler espresso machines available at its price point. Two independent boilers — one dedicated to brewing, one to steam — allow you to pull a shot and texture milk at the same time, eliminating the heat-exchanger wait that defines single-boiler workflow. Each boiler has its own PID controller, giving you precise, independent temperature management for both functions.

What sets the Elizabeth apart is how much it achieves in a genuinely compact chassis. It fits comfortably on a home counter while delivering the kind of workflow and temperature stability that cafés expect. The Elizabeth is the machine we recommend most often to experienced home baristas who are ready for dual-boiler performance without a commercial-sized footprint.

Key Features

  • True dual-boiler system — independent brew and steam boilers
  • Dual PID control — separate temperature management for brew and steam
  • Simultaneous brewing and steaming — no waiting between functions

  • Pre-infusion — programmable soak phase before full pressure
  • Compact dual-boiler footprint — smaller than most machines in this category
  • Made in Italy — Lelit's Bologna factory

Frequently Asked Questions

Elizabeth vs Mara X — both around $1,800, which one?

The honest answer: depends on how many milk drinks you make. The Elizabeth is a true dual boiler, so brew and steam happen simultaneously — no waiting. The Mara X is a heat exchanger, slightly faster heat-up, slightly better thermal mass for back-to-back shots, but you wait briefly between brewing and steaming. If your daily routine is "one drink, then maybe another in 20 minutes," the Mara X is excellent. If you make two milk drinks back-to-back every morning, get the Elizabeth.

Is the Elizabeth's small footprint worth the compromises?

Yes if your kitchen is tight. The Elizabeth is the smallest dual boiler at this price point — it fits where a Bianca or Pro 700 won't. The compromise is a smaller steam boiler. You can absolutely steam milk for a single cappuccino comfortably; just don't expect the steam power of a Pro 700 or Linea Mini.

Can the Elizabeth do back-to-back milk drinks?

One after another, with a 30-second pause between, yes. Three lattes in 5 minutes, no — the steam boiler is small and recovery is slower than a larger dual boiler. For a household of 1-2 daily milk drinkers, this is a non-issue. For a daily 3+ drink household, look at the Bianca or commercial-tier alternatives.

Elizabeth vs Breville Dual Boiler (BDB) — is it really $700 better?

The BDB is a genuinely good machine and has a huge mod community. Where the Elizabeth wins: build (metal vs plastic), serviceability (we can repair Elizabeths for years; some BDB parts are getting hard to source), and the no-fuss factory quality. The BDB wins on price-to-features and the ability to mod (PID, OPV, drip tray, you name it). If you enjoy tinkering, BDB. If you want to buy once and not touch it, Elizabeth.

Is the steam wand strong enough?

For 1-2 drinks at a time, yes. The 2-hole wand and smaller steam boiler mean it takes 25-35 seconds to texture a 6oz pitcher — perfectly fine for home use, slightly slower than an E61 HX with a bigger tip. Some owners replace the stock 2-hole tip with a 4-hole for faster steaming.

Is pre-infusion programmable?

On V3, yes — you can adjust pre-infusion timing via the LCC display. Not as flexible as a Bianca's flow paddle, but more than enough for most home users. Default settings work well for medium roasts.

What grinder should I pair with it?

Same as the Mara X: minimum reasonable pairing is the Eureka Specialita ($629). Most owners pair with the Atom 75 ($1,199) for a perfectly balanced setup.

How long should the Elizabeth last?

10+ years with proper care. The most important thing: filter your water. Berkeley/Oakland tap water is hard enough to scale a dual boiler in 1-2 years if you skip softening. We recommend a Lelit in-tank softener ($65) at minimum. Backflush weekly, descale every 6 months with softened water (every 2-3 months without).

What It Pairs Well With

The Elizabeth ships with a 58mm dual-spouted portafilter, single + double IMS baskets, a backflushing disc, cleaning products, a barista towel, and a Lelit-proprietary water filter — Lelit packs the box well. What Elizabeth owners on home-barista.com and r/espresso consistently add:

Grinders

  • Eureka Mignon Specialita ($629) — the dominant Elizabeth pairing. Stepless flat burrs, set-and-forget hopper. Most-recommended pairing across Cliff & Pebble's 2025 Lelit guide and HB Elizabeth threads.
  • Eureka Atom 75 ($1,199) — premium pairing. 75mm flat burrs match the Elizabeth's dual-boiler ceiling for clarity-focused espresso.
  • Lelit William ($599) — purpose-built same-brand pairing. Shares Lelit's design language and workflow philosophy.
  • Forum alternatives Kanen doesn't currently stock: Mazzer Mini (compact commercial), DF64 (~$400 budget single-doser).

Workflow accessories (the easy upgrades from the included kit)

  • Bottomless portafilter — the most-cited first upgrade for the Elizabeth. The Lelit 58mm bottomless or any 58mm aftermarket option works.
  • Better tamper — the included tamper is functional; most owners replace with a calibrated 58mm tamper within a few months.
  • 18g precision basket — the IMS baskets included are good; some owners add an aftermarket VST or LM basket.
  • 12-15oz milk pitcher — the Elizabeth's smaller steam boiler pairs best with a 12oz pitcher for solo lattes.
  • Puck screen — reduces shower screen buildup. $15. Owners on Lelit forums consistently recommend.
  • Wooden or metal steam knob — small upgrade, big daily-use difference per HB threads. Lelit sells a brass steam knob; aftermarket wooden knobs are popular too.

Water + maintenance

  • Lelit in-tank softener ($65) — direct fit for the Elizabeth. Critical in hard-water areas — dual-boiler scale is a real failure mode.
  • Cafiza E31 backflush tablets for weekly cleaning.
  • 3-way solenoid drain hose maintenance — Elizabeth-specific gotcha; clogs surface around the 12-month mark if you skip backflushing. Stay on top of weekly Cafiza cycles.

The "wish I'd bought it day one" accessory

A spare steam valve stem. Per HB Elizabeth threads, the steam wand seals are the most common service item, and having a spare on hand turns a 20-minute fix into a non-event. Lelit sells the part for ~$30.

🔧 Kanen Tech Take

Julian (Lead Tech): "You get two PIDs — control both steam and brew boiler temperatures independently. Pre-infusion programming, one/two-shot dose settings, hot water tap off the steam boiler, and a pump pressure gauge. Steam quality is noticeably better than a single boiler. The lid comes up easily and both boilers are accessible — actually pretty easy to work on."

Khaldoun (Senior Tech): "Consistent steaming, PID and pressure gauge, the LCC display makes programming intuitive. Best value in the dual-boiler category — our techs personally vouch for it."

Sam (Owner): "Solid machine with dual boilers. Needs tune-ups every three to four years. Does great shots and hot water for tea too." Most common issue: hose gaskets drying out with age. Catch it early, it's a routine fix.
