Sam Kanenwisher (Owner and Founder of Kanen Coffee, LLC.) has been taking things apart and putting them back together since he was a child. After going to high school he spent four years as an Electronic’s Technician in the U.S. Coast Guard. He repaired radars, radios, and air traffic control systems on a Coast Guard Cutter that spent most of it’s time in the Caribbean.

After the Coast Guard Sam wanted to learn better skills in working with people. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 2006 from Augsburg University. Then he pursued a career as a pastor and went to school at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. He graduated with a Master’s in Divinity in 2010. He missed working with his hands and had been a coffee enthusiast for many years roasting his own coffee. He attended a course in coffee roasting and tasting with Boot Coffee Consulting.

In late, 2010 Sam was asked to repair an espresso machine for a relative (La Pavoni Europiccola). He taught himself how to repair this machine by researching it on the internet. Word got around and others asked Sam to repair their espresso machines. Sam started advertising his services on the internet and in January of 2011 he opened Kanen Coffee.

Since 2011, Sam has been growing the business as well as partnering with Anza to design espresso machines.
